Creation of survey
To assess diversity and inclusion quite often companies use surveys with closed questions; which although may be easier to use in terms of the quantification of the received data, this method does not really give employees the chance to express their true feeling and opinions.
We have thought of a survey with open questions about inclusion and diversity. For this task, Connecta will use the help of a psychologist, Alessandra Spera, who is career counsellor and systemic psychotherapist. For the project, she will build a survey of about twenty questions (open questions rather than a tick box with yes and no) concerning inclusion, exploring perceptions and feelings of each worker about the following dimensions: gender, culture and ethnicity. The employees will be free to write what they think and feel and all the answers will be important and significant.
This activity is based on the intercultural perspective and the systemic relational approach. The legal framework is defined by the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (2000) with particular referral to the articles n. 21, 22, 23 and the European Directive n. 2000/78 about the prohibition of any discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender, religion, age, opinion, culture, ethnic origin, disability including the work context. Literature about inclusion and diversity is still in development; the most recent theories and social research contributions will be used for the conceptualization of the construction.

A new tool for sentiment analysis
AI Superior will build the aspect-based sentiment analysis by using NLP, a subfield of Artificial Intelligence which deals with a Natural Language. AI Superior will build a robust model for evaluating employees’ feedback. Existing pre-trained networks (BERT) will be used for this task. AI Superior will use their annotated data-set to train a dedicated model which will understand sentiment with respect to defined aspects in the feedback of employees. They will deliver a report about the performance model and a report about the data.

Software for extraction of the sentiments for each sentence or paragraph will be also delivered. Connecta will create a multiplatform application using a responsive design. The application is divided into two parts: admin and user and will be designed to guarantee the anonymity of the employees. Small precautions will also be taken into account for users suffering from colour blindness and for blind users (each question will be connected to its respective audio clip). The data will all be managed safely as they will be encrypted and will reside on national servers in Italy.

Test our tool
The testing phase of our digital tool represents a crucial point in the project. The test will be carried out by beta-testers, to verify the effectiveness of our project. Indeed, for this phase we have selected our sister company in Italy, Livith SpA.
Livith will try out the app with its employees. They will download the app, answer the open-ended questions and, at the end, the managers will receive a report mapping the employees’ feelings about D&I.

- a theoretical approach about the themes of diversity and inclusion: in this phase we will explain to participants the importance of the diversity and the richness of inclusion.
- a practical phase: all the members involved in the training course will explore their company with the app. They will use the app to analyse their companies and in particular the feelings of their employees about D&I.
- follow up: Zhero Consulting will have a private call (Zoom or similar) with each member of the course in order to receive feedback about the use of the app and to discuss the results in order to get advice and solutions to create a more inclusive workplace.
Finally, Connecta will make a video to summarize the most important parts of the training course in order to produce material for future use.

Management and communication
“Project management” and “Dissemination and Communication” are two horizontal activities that assure the smooth development of the project. Through a widespread dissemination of the project and its outcomes, many companies will have a chance to assess D&I in the workplace.
All partners will contribute to the proper management of the project by carrying out the explained activities and providing all the necessary information for the project development.
The activity will be carried out by all the members of the project to reach a wider audience. Every partner has a common purpose: to share the project remarking the importance of Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace. The employees will be the first protagonists because they will answer the survey of open questions and their answers will be analysed using AI to understand their feelings about inclusion in the workplace.
